This contact sheet shows the whole Nick Cave session, and it is interesting to see how much the mood changes from frame to frame.

There are the very tight portraits, the more formal shots in the suit and tie, and a whole sequence of Nick sitting with his head in his hands. There are also several frames where he looks directly into the camera, including one rather strange image where his face is partly obscured by a dark mark.

This is the bit that disappears when you only see the finished photograph. Before choosing a picture, this was the material I had to work with — thirty or so slightly different versions of Nick Cave, and the job of deciding which one actually worked.

I think the contact sheet is worth keeping alongside the finished prints because it shows the process rather than just the result.
