Artwork Title: Nirvana - 1990 - Fallout Shelter

The faded sign on the wall behind and above the bands' heads is an old US fallout shelter sign.

I was quite obsessed with the idea that the leaders of America were so convinced of a nuclear attack on their major cities that they commissioned signage and designated underground spaces as fallout shelters.

But also the idea that going into a basement beneath an old building would provide any kind of real protection from a nuclear warhead, the most ridiculous sop to the general public.

Placing Nirvana in front of the sign was my way of drawing attention to the level of conniving that politicians would go to to further their own agendas.
