Michael is looking away from the camera here, his arm stretching right out of the frame as though he is reaching towards someone just out of shot.

I like the way that gesture changes the whole shape of the photograph. It pulls the eye away from him and into the empty space on the left, making the frame feel much bigger than it actually is.

This was one of those moments where the action worked better because I didn't try to include all of it. His arm disappears beyond the edge of the frame and we're left with the movement rather than the complete action.

Michael could fill a stadium, but photographically he didn't always need much space at all.
