After the guitar, the drum kit and the amplifier had taken their share of the punishment, there wasn't much more to happen.

I'd been standing at the side of the stage for the whole show and had watched the evening change from a fairly normal Nirvana gig into something I hadn't expected to photograph at all.

The sequence is particularly interesting to me because of how quickly it developed. I started the evening rationing my film because I was paying for every frame. Then Kurt started smashing things and suddenly I was shooting as fast as I could.

This is one of the frames that comes after that burst of action, when the immediate violence of the moment has started to subside.
