Artwork Title: Blur – 1990 – Contact Sheet 22F
Oh so young, photographed around the time of There's No Other Way, when Blur were still being labelled Baggy or Madchester tag-a-longs rather than the band they would soon become.
Again photographed in my shared studio at B2, Metropolitan Wharf, this contact sheet revolves around one simple idea. Almost every frame has the band looking or pointing beyond the edge of the picture, reacting to something that only existed for the purposes of the photograph. It's a reminder that a single visual idea is often explored over an entire roll of film before one frame quietly stands out from the rest.
The pink chinagraph mark identifies the image I selected for printing at the time.
The negatives have aged rather better than the photographer.
