Public Enemy
16th May 1988, Birmingham, UK
Artwork Title: Public Enemy - 1988 - Black Power
There was never much need to tell P.E. what to do for a photo, they were naturals in front of the lens.
Terminator X and the two members of the S1W make the Black Power salute, Griff looks ready to come at you while Chuck and Flav hold the flanks with attitude.
I like the fact that they are all lined up particularly neatly. Chuck and Flav are leaning against the rails, Griff is caught mid-manoeuvre and the two S1W members are standing like they've been issued with very precise instructions about where to put their feet. Even the Birmingham skyline seems to have got into formation behind them.
The only thing I regret about this shoot is not getting a shot of the shocked and surprised old ladies with their shopping carts happening upon a Paramilitary style photo shoot in the middle of Birmingham town centre.
