And then the band walked off stage.

I'd spent the whole show at the side of the stage, having already photographed Nirvana in the East Village earlier that day. I was going to be with them for another couple of days, photographing the shows in Amherst and Hoboken, so I'd started the evening being very careful with the film.

That all changed when Kurt started smashing the guitar and then the drum kit with a cymbal stand, before throwing the beer over the amplifier and speaker stack.

I shot as much as I could until there was nothing left to photograph.

Then they walked off.
