Artwork Title: Björk Studio with Flowers - Look 1 - Cross Process - 1995

I wanted the photograph to have the same slightly surreal quality as the music Björk was making at the time.

The leaves and flowers were deliberately introduced as props, but the cross-processing did much of the rest, turning the background into an almost impossibly vivid yellow and pushing the greens towards something more artificial than natural. I liked the way the technique made the photograph feel slightly removed from reality.

Björk was in the middle of making Post at the time, and its anything-goes mixture of electronic music, trip-hop, strings, jazz and pop seemed to fit the picture rather well. It was an exciting period in her career, when the music and the visual world around it both felt experimental without quite knowing where they were going next.
